Product specific export requirements

COCOA

  1. Register with MAAIF under the Cocoa Development Programme.
  2. Dry and sort cocoa beans to the appropriate moisture level.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Get quality verification from UNBS (optional, if required by buyer).
  5. Apply for Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  6. Submit all export documents to URA for clearance.

TEA

  1. Register with Uganda Tea Development Agency (UTDA).
  2. Grade and pack tea according to UTDA and UNBS specifications.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  5. Submit documents for clearance with URA.

DIARY PRODUCTS

  1. Register with the Dairy Development Authority (DDA).
  2. Ensure dairy products comply with UNBS food safety standards.
  3. Obtain a health certificate from DDA and phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  5. Submit export documentation to URA for clearance.

OIL SEEDS

  1. Register with MAAIF under the oilseeds development programme.
  2. Ensure quality control and sorting of produce.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  5. Submit documentation to URA for customs clearance.

FRUITS & VEGETABLES

  1. Register with MAAIF under the horticultural export scheme.
  2. Ensure product sorting, grading, and packaging standards are followed.
  3. Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
  4. Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  5. Submit all documents to URA for customs clearance.

COFFEE

  1. Obtain a coffee export license from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries department of Coffee Development.
  2. Register a coffee grading facility
  3. Obtain performance bond
  4. Obtain quality mark permit online from Uganda National Bureau of Standards
  5. Obtain letter of registration of sales contract issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries – Coffee Development Department
  6. Quality certificate – Coffee
  7. Clearance

Export of Flowers

  1. Register as an exporter of flowers with Department of Crop inspection & Certification
  2. Register as an exporter of cocoa
  3. Register with the uganda flower exporters association (UFEA) – This is an internationally recognised association providing capacity building and industry development services to its members. It also lobbies for a better enabling environment for the growth of the flower industry
  4. Clearance

Export of Fish

  1. Register as an exporter on the Uganda Electronic Single Window
  2. Register as an exporter with Uganda Export Promotion Board
  3. Register with fisheries directorate license & permits portal
  4. Obtain license to engage in fishing activities
  5. Obtain local fish health inspection certificate
  6. Obtain fish plant certification
  7. Obtain By products/ Transporters License
  8. Obtain license for trucks carrying fish
  9. Obtain license for Industrial processing of fish & fishery Products
  10. Obtain artisanal processors /fish mongers license
  11. Obtain fish sanitary certificate
  12. Contract a clearing agent
  13. Consignment clearance inland

VANILLA

  1. Register as an exporter of fresh fruits & vegetables with Department of Crop inspection & Certification
  2. Register a new pack house
  3. The facility where produce for export is handled has to undergo inspection by Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries
  4. Obtain REX number
  5. Obtain a one time Registered Exporter number from Uganda Revenue Authority
  6. Obtain registration as an exporter with Hortifresh Uganda
  7. Obtain recommendation letter from Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority
  8. Obtain recommendation letter from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives (MTIC)
  9. Obtain phytosanitary certificate for fruits and vegetables
