Product specific export requirements
COCOA

- Register with MAAIF under the Cocoa Development Programme.
- Dry and sort cocoa beans to the appropriate moisture level.
- Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
- Get quality verification from UNBS (optional, if required by buyer).
- Apply for Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- Submit all export documents to URA for clearance.
TEA
- Register with Uganda Tea Development Agency (UTDA).
- Grade and pack tea according to UTDA and UNBS specifications.
- Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
- Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- Submit documents for clearance with URA.

DIARY PRODUCTS

- Register with the Dairy Development Authority (DDA).
- Ensure dairy products comply with UNBS food safety standards.
- Obtain a health certificate from DDA and phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
- Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- Submit export documentation to URA for clearance.
OIL SEEDS
- Register with MAAIF under the oilseeds development programme.
- Ensure quality control and sorting of produce.
- Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
- Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- Submit documentation to URA for customs clearance.

FRUITS & VEGETABLES

- Register with MAAIF under the horticultural export scheme.
- Ensure product sorting, grading, and packaging standards are followed.
- Obtain a phytosanitary certificate from MAAIF.
- Apply for a Certificate of Origin from URA or Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- Submit all documents to URA for customs clearance.
COFFEE
- Obtain a coffee export license from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries department of Coffee Development.
- Register a coffee grading facility
- Obtain performance bond
- Obtain quality mark permit online from Uganda National Bureau of Standards
- Obtain letter of registration of sales contract issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries – Coffee Development Department

Export of Flowers

- Register as an exporter of flowers with Department of Crop inspection & Certification
- Register as an exporter of cocoa
- Register with the uganda flower exporters association (UFEA) – This is an internationally recognised association providing capacity building and industry development services to its members. It also lobbies for a better enabling environment for the growth of the flower industry

Export of Fish
- Register as an exporter on the Uganda Electronic Single Window
- Register as an exporter with Uganda Export Promotion Board
- Register with fisheries directorate license & permits portal
- Obtain license to engage in fishing activities
- Obtain local fish health inspection certificate
- Obtain fish plant certification
- Obtain By products/ Transporters License
- Obtain license for trucks carrying fish
- Obtain license for Industrial processing of fish & fishery Products
- Obtain artisanal processors /fish mongers license
- Obtain fish sanitary certificate
- Contract a clearing agent
- Consignment clearance inland

VANILLA

- Register as an exporter of fresh fruits & vegetables with Department of Crop inspection & Certification
- Register a new pack house
- The facility where produce for export is handled has to undergo inspection by Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries
- Obtain REX number
- Obtain a one time Registered Exporter number from Uganda Revenue Authority
- Obtain registration as an exporter with Hortifresh Uganda
- Obtain recommendation letter from Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority
- Obtain recommendation letter from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives (MTIC)
- Obtain phytosanitary certificate for fruits and vegetables
