How We Work: Partnering for Uganda’s Export Success

At the ELGSU, we believe that Uganda’s export growth is a collaborative national mission. Our approach is built on direct engagement and strategic partnerships across the entire export ecosystem. We do not operate from an ivory tower; we work hand-in-hand with those who drive our economy forward.

Here is how we deliver on our mandate:

1. Capacity Building: Empowering from the Ground Up

We train and certify exporters to meet vital international standards and compliance. Our programs are designed to equip Ugandan businesses with the practical knowledge and skills needed to compete and win in global markets, from farm-level best practices to advanced export logistics.

2. Stakeholder Engagements: Aligning for Collective Impact

We host continuous dialogues and workshops to align strategies and solve export challenges collectively. By bringing together voices from the public and private sectors, we ensure our policies are informed by real-world experience and address the most pressing barriers to trade.

3. Working with Associations: Amplifying Our Reach

We partner directly with sector-specific associations to amplify support and extend our reach. These collaborations allow us to channel resources effectively, disseminate critical market intelligence, and ensure a unified voice for sectors like coffee, cocoa, and fisheries on the global stage.

4. Engaging Exporters Directly: Tailored Support for Growth

We provide direct, one-on-one assistance and troubleshooting for individual exporting companies. Understanding that each business is unique, we work to provide tailored solutions that address specific challenges related to market access, financing, and regulatory compliance.

5. Strengthening Cooperatives: Building Power through Unity

We empower farmer groups and cooperatives to aggregate produce and achieve export readiness. By building the capacity of cooperatives, we help smallholder farmers meet volume requirements, improve quality consistency, and gain stronger bargaining power in international value chains.

6. Leveraging Commercial Officers: Intelligence on the Frontlines

We collaborate with Uganda’s commercial officers in overseas missions for vital market intelligence and trade facilitation. This network provides our exporters with real-time insights, helps identify new buyers, and resolves market-entry issues directly in key destinations like the EU, USA, and Middle East.
